Sawmill Bandsaw Blade Basics Part 1 - Width, Thickness, and Tooth Spacing
Posted by Admin on Oct 3rd 2023
We've been talking about wanting to bring you some videos concerning saw blades and we're going to try to do some of these all along as we can.
I wanted to begin today just with some basic bandsaw information. Bandsaw basics we call it. I want to begin by talking about the blade so we’ll keep these real short; I like short videos.
Bandsaw blades are made of a spring steel. There's different metal configurations and names given by different manufacturers but regardless it is a spring steel that is flexible so that it can go around the bandsaw wheels without failure. It’s the same as a regular spring that you're familiar with.
The second thing I'll just mention in this short video today are the widths of the blades in the portable bandsaw mill industry. Blades vary from one 1” wide, (that's from the back to the very tip) 1-1/4”, and 1-1/2”. Those are the basic widths that are standard. The common thicknesses of blade vary from .035” all the way up to .055”.
Tooth spacing varies from 1/2” through 1”.
All these widths, thicknesses and tooth spacing will vary depending on what you’re wanting to saw.
For more information or help with deciding on which blade is best for you give us a call or check out some of our other videos with bandsaw blade information covering that subject.
